The design is very similar to last year, just a little bit smaller and a little more squared off and with glass on the back instead of plastic.

The S22+ went from 6.7” to 6.6” diagonally and the smaller S22 went from 6.2” to 6.1”.

At 1300 nits for the S22 and 1750 nits FOR S22+, the phones are very viewable outdoors although the peak brightness on the bigger phones and the ultra is crazy bright. It has an awesome view even in direct sunlight.

It does not have the full variable refresh rate range of LTPO2 like we have on the ultra. refresh rates can go as low as 10Hz but the display is still refreshing faster. It is a great bright, responsive display and its adaptive mode.

Both phones have a 300 million power smaller battery compared to last year. This is attributable to the phones’ smaller size.

The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip is a very high-end chip, with very high performance which is better than previous chips. It is a more efficient four-nanometer node.

With no LTPO and with smaller batteries and a potentially high-power drawing chip, there is a concern on the battery life on the phones. The S22+ can last 1day 5hrs.

The camera system is really good. It handles any normal lighting situation really well; Samsung colors are nicely balanced.

The ultrawide is softer than the main camera, but still does well with a lot of light.

The telephoto is rock solid. No weird HDR hallowing issues in pictures, no white balancing inconsistency problems, no autofocus issues and pretty minimal shutter lag.

The night photography which Samsung call nightography, depicts a software improvement with the cameras and AI stereo portrait mode improvements for better cutouts and Space Zoom, stability locking and auto framing that can track up to 10 faces around a frame, and a new Expert Raw app.

The S22 has a new google messages app as a default, which is a Samsung-skinned version. It has a half screen reachable UI.

It has also a google DUO feature where you can actually watch a YouTube video together with someone while on a video call like apple did with Shareplay over FaceTime.

The Galaxy S22 is really good across the board. And on top of that Samsung is promising four years of software updates for it.
